Establishment of New Organizations to Attract Businesses to Kobe
The Hyogo Investment Support Center had for 10 years been successful in attracting foreign companies to the Kobe Area. However, it was dissolved on March 31, 2005 along with its parent organization, the Hanshin-Awaji Economic Revitalization Organization (HERO) which had been created in 1996 with an authorized life of 10 years.
In order to take over its activities, the Hyogo Prefectural Government, the City of Kobe and the Kobe Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly established a new organization on April 1, 2005. Its office is located in the KCCI building, and it is called the Hyogo-Kobe Investment Support Center (HKIS).
The activities of the new organization cover not only attracting foreign and Japanese companies to the Kobe area, but also supporting local companies that are interested in overseas investment.
On the other hand, on April 1, 2005, the City of Kobe established a new special task force named "the Kobe Enterprise Promotion Bureau", specializing in attracting Japanese companies to Kobe. The Mayor of Kobe leads the task force. The Chairman of the KCCI has been asked by the Mayor of Kobe to be an advisor to the task force.
