International Business Networking Program (IBNP)
English Rakugo Performance
The Kobe Chamber of Commerce and Industry has held "International Luncheon Meetings" from 1959 to 2002 in order to promote international exchanges and friendship between foreign consulate generals, foreign-affiliated firms located in Kobe, and KCCI's foreign-oriented members.
We are modestly proud that this luncheon meeting series was the oldest and longest-continuing international gathering among Japanese chambers. However, the growing centralization of the Japanese economy in Tokyo, and the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, led most of the foreign consulate generals and many of the foreign-capital firms to relocate from Kobe into Osaka. Finally, we at the Chamber discontinued these meetings as of March 2002.
On the other hand, there are still many foreigners living in the Kobe area, and major multi-national companies such as P&G, Eli Lilly Japan and Nestlé are actively doing business here. In addition to that, Kobe City has been working to promote medical-related industries, which are considered promising for the 21st century. We predict that quite a number of researchers and scholars will be coming to Kobe from various parts of the world to visit and to settle.
The International Business committee of the KCCI has started up a new networking event, which is designed to be business-oriented with a friendly and casual atmosphere. We invited foreign businesspersons, diplomats, researchers, and members of the KCCI and other international economic organizations in the Kansai area to attend the first event, which was held on March 11, 2004. It is called the "International Business Networking Program (IBNP)".
